Youth Can Do It!
Mayara Efe is a body positivity activist who grew up with little to no media representation of her color and body type. She constantly felt like she had to live up to the beauty standards of society–being white and skinny. Mayara also lost her confidence due to this.
Eventually, through feminism, Mayara realized that self worth can be found through loving her body. Now a body-positive activist, she posts photos on Instagram, honoring women diversity, power, and beauty.
“It is our job to reach out to these girls and make them understand that their bodies belong to them and they are beautiful no matter what. [...] At that exact moment, I knew I could be whatever I wanted to be. I think that’s the importance of spreading the message of self-respect and representation.” –Mayara says (Mcnamara, 2016).
