SOGIE Bill | Let's Hear it From Youth

Let's Hear it From Youth!📣

The SOGIE bill is a bill that prohibits discrimination rooted in sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. The bill, yet to be approved, is still not a law yet after 20+ years. We asked our fellow youth their views about this.

“This bill may not seem like a lot to some people nor may it seem as vital as it truly is, but in reality it’s granting so many people and especially youth a haven in which they can be themselves without fear. In my opinion this would be a life changing law in terms of protecting the people of today and their rights, and would bring a certain sense of security that some have not yet gotten to know. In all, younger people deserve to grow up in a place where they will feel comfortable enough to live as they truly are and the SOGIE bill is one step closer to reaching that, the step just needs to be taken.” – Kaz

“It’s ironic how our society is all about love and harmony. How as a child we’re taught to love one another and be kind. And yet those adults who praise these very same ideals can’t seem to practice it themselves. It’s hypocritical. As children, we’re always reminded that we are ‘Unconditionally loved’, yet as we grow up, that love turns out to have a few conditions. Honestly, knowing that it’s been 23 years and it still hasn’t been approved is quite absurd. I understand that people have been reluctant to agree to this bill due to religious differences but it still does not justify disagreeing with a bill that is all about preventing people from discriminating against others. If they do love us, the youth, unconditionally. We deserve to live in a world wherein the simple act of love and expression isn’t a basis to be treated equally” – Aishe

“My opinion about SOGIE bill is neutral because I supported both the church and the opinion of the lgbtq community im very transparent with regard of both sides because our law only supports what is right and just. If it doesn’t hurt anybody then I will go for the sogie bill.” – Bars

“For me lang ha, i think SOGIE Bill should be passed as a law na (?), kase I’ve seen a lot of posts and videos na there are members of the LGBTQ community that are still experiencing discrimination. They are being judged with the way they dress and how they act, stereotyping to be exact. So since SOGIE Bill proposes that i will eliminate or punish discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, why not pass it as a law, right? Yun lang po” – Anonymous

“I think what i view in the sogie bill is that gender equality is a must so that other people who feels different from the girl and boy gender would not feel discrimination and would not be judged by other base on their appearance and expression” – Gracey

"I believe the sogie bill should be passed it covers things like equal access to healthcare, employment, education which are basic human rights everyone should have, no matter their sexuality or gender. if there already is a bill protecting heterosexuals (House Bill 5717) why cant they simply pass a new bill thats more inclusive and will provide more equality and safety for their people? the sogie bill doesnt affect cisgender or heterosexuals it simply protects queer people and provide them better and more fair opportunities that cisgender and heterosexual people has had for centuries" – Ask

"for me i really don't care about the gender of a person as long he/she has a good personality whether he/she is lesbian or gay her/his personality shouldn't be judged by other person because every one is equal there are things that a woman can do but the man can't and there's also things that a man can do but the man can't so everyone is equal with or without this so called SOGIE BILL" – Tess
