Youth Can Do It !
Reyna Valmores, a trans youth leader, is the chairperson of Bahaghari (the national democratic organization of LGBT+ Filipinos advocating for LGBT+ rights in the country). She believes that standing firm together is the way to reach our goals.
She experienced being bullied and lived with constant anxiety. When she went to college at UP Diliman, that's where she started to experience more. They gave her the opportunity to explore and discover more about her. As the time passed she also discovered that many people are also like her who are fighting for their identity and that was when she got to share her advocacy for other people like her.
“For me, Pride is not just about any singular figure. Pride is not about having some kind of savior to provide us with our rights. Pride is about remembering that our rights are not given to us, but rather fought for — collectively. That is what happened in Stonewall. And I think given the situation that we face right now, I think there is value in us going out and celebrating our diversity, celebrating who we are despite a world that tries to erase us. But for as long as this erasure and this violence continue, Pride will also continue to be a resistance. Pride will also continue to be a protest. That is the core of what “Pride” means.” – Valmores stated in an interview with CNN Philippines
